STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Virginia Union University offers an exceptional opportunity for students in our Student Support Services Program.  Student Support Services is a Federal Trio sponsored program that awards funds to institutions of higher education.  To provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.

What is Trio?
In its commitment to providing educational opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance, the U.S. Congress established a series of programs to help low-income Americans enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America’s economic and social life.  These Programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and referred to as the TRIO Programs (initially just three programs: Upward Bound, Talent Search, Student Support Services).  Today, TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to process through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs.
