Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology

The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology

Student Life - Campus Life

Our learning community seeks to be a warm, caring community. It's a concept that comes straight out of our heritage. The African-American Church tradition, in which most of our students have grown up, is based on an ancient, Old Testament model of an extended family or tribe. In that kind of community, each member supports and encourages every other member and lives by an understood code of honor designed to maintain the best interests of the whole group.

Campus life at the School of Theology is very much centered on community and caring, and spiritual growth. That community spirit, of course, includes a healthy dose of good old-fashioned fun and fellowship, as well. Through sports, social events, and service projects, we build our sense of community and make every one of our students feel a part of the community of the School of Theology, the community of the Richmond Theological Consortium, the community of Virginia Union University, and the historic community of Richmond, Virginia.
