Academic Affairs


The Division of Academic Affairs at Virginia Union University is committed to exemplary teaching and boasts of its proud faculty, composed of talented professors, scholars, advisors, and researchers, who are dedicated to helping students become life-long learners. The Division includes four academic schools: the Sydney Lewis School of Business; the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology; the School of Education, Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies; and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Overall, the mission of the Division of Academic Affairs is to prepare students to successfully compete with their counterparts upon graduation for employment and admissions to graduate or professional studies, while at the same time exhibiting characteristics of the ideal Virginia Union University Graduate. The Division of Academic Affairs is dedicated to providing an overall academic environment which is sensitive, supportive, and nurturing, while simultaneously, challenging students to achieve new levels of excellence. This is done with primary emphasis on excellent teaching, research, service, and advising; a strong curriculum; and high quality Academic Support Services. The Division also subscribes to the University’s rich heritage and traditions which is anchored in the liberal arts and is responsive to promoting the University’s overall Mission.

As the entity charged with enhancing the academic reputation of the University, the Division of Academic Affairs strives to achieve the following:

COMMENCEMENT 2010

 Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 8th!

To be cleared for graduation, you must have satisfied the Exit Requirements below. There is one new requirement: completion of the Graduate Student Survey. This electronic survey will be available to you April 27th - May 4th. You will receive notice of the link to the survey via email and on the website for "Academics" "Current Students" "Student Life" and "Office of Career Services" in spring as to the exact dates!

Exit Requirements for Graduation:

- a minimum of 120 credit hours towards a degree
- a cumulative GPA of 2.0
- a minimum of 30 semester hours in residence at VUU
- successful completion of the English Essay Exam or Criterion
- completion of the Graduate Student Survey

 INCOMPLETE GRADE REMOVAL REQUESTS BEGIN
FEBRUARY 1st 2010!

Students who intend to submit academic work to request a change in an Incomplete grade earned in Fall 2009 should visit the Office of the Registrar during the month of February. Please request and complete an Incomplete Grade Removal Form which will be forwarded to the appropriate Instructor to submit a grade. Remember to report to the Instructor to complete the necessary coursework.

The conversion of Incompletes earned in fall ’09 to F’s will be done on March 10th. Do not wait until March to request the form; do this in February!
