Academic Affairs
The Division of Academic Affairs at Virginia Union University is committed to exemplary teaching and boasts of its proud faculty, composed of talented professors, scholars, advisors, and researchers, who are dedicated to helping students become life-long learners. The Division includes four academic schools: the Sydney Lewis School of Business; the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology; the School of Education, Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies; and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Overall, the mission of the Division of Academic Affairs is to prepare students to successfully compete with their counterparts upon graduation for employment and admissions to graduate or professional studies, while at the same time exhibiting characteristics of the ideal Virginia Union University Graduate. The Division of Academic Affairs is dedicated to providing an overall academic environment which is sensitive, supportive, and nurturing, while simultaneously, challenging students to achieve new levels of excellence. This is done with primary emphasis on excellent teaching, research, service, and advising; a strong curriculum; and high quality Academic Support Services. The Division also subscribes to the University’s rich heritage and traditions which is anchored in the liberal arts and is responsive to promoting the University’s overall Mission.
As the entity charged with enhancing the academic reputation of the University, the Division of Academic Affairs strives to achieve the following:

PREREGISTRATION FOR SPRING 2010!
You may register for Spring 2010 classes online from November 9 – 23, 2009. Your classes will be dropped after December 16th if your account is not financially cleared.

WITHDRAWAL FROM FALL CLASSES
Friday, November 20th, 2009, is the last day to receive a withdrawal grade of WO or WF! If you wish to withdraw from a course in the Fall 2009 semester, you may obtain the Withdrawal Form from the Office of the Registrar in order to receive a Withdraw Passing (WO) or Withdraw Failing (WF).
A copy of the form will be forwarded to the instructor who will determine the appropriate grade. Both grades are permanent grades on your transcript.

COMMENCEMENT 2010
Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 8th! To be cleared for graduation, you must have satisfied the Exit Requirements below. There is one new requirement: completion of the Graduate Student Survey. This electronic survey will be available to you in late April; you will be notified in spring as to the exact dates!
Exit Requirements for Graduation:
- a minimum of 120 credit hours towards a degree
- a cumulative GPA of 2.0
- a minimum of 30 semester hours in residence at VUU
- successful completion of the English Essay Exam
- a minimum of 80 University-sponsored Event credits
- completion of the Graduate Student Survey

January 6th: Returning students, L – Z
January 7th: 1st day of spring classes
January 7-13th: Late registration, $100 fee assessed
(The financial aid of students who do not attend classes beginning the first week and throughout the semester may be adjusted.)
