Welcome to the Evelyn R. Syphax School of Education, Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies. The primary mission of the School is to produce a nationally validated program that develops a community of professionals competent and dedicated to improving humanity.
These professionals will exhibit knowledge and skills in their fields of study, engage in life-long learning, and will be committed to professional growth. The School encourages scholarly inquiry based on reflective analysis in search for excellence, solid values, and a sense of personal worth in diverse settings.

The School is a vibrant and cutting-edge learning community. Our graduates are educated to be professionals who empower the people and communities they serve. The Syphax School of Education, Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies has two departments: the Department of Teacher Education and Interdisciplinary Studies and the Department of Psychology. The Teacher Education Program prepares students to teach grades PK-12. Students who desire to teach elementary grades PK-5 and students who desire to teach special education general curriculum K-12 must declare a major in Interdisciplinary Studies. Students who desire to teach in middle and high schools declare an academic major in a content area. Content area majors are available in Biology, Business and Information Technology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics and History. The Department of Psychology offers both a major and minor in psychology. The program is designed establish a firm foundation in psychological theory, research and practice.
The School’s faculty members are well educated and caring individuals, who embrace creative and innovative instructional methods, conduct and publish research, actively attend conferences and perform services to the Commonwealth, nation and world. Students are given many opportunities to participate in faculty projects as well as develop their own.
