Virginia Union University is seeking to fill the position of Director of the L. Douglas Wilder Library and Learning Resource Center.  The Director, chief administrative officer of the library, is responsible for providing leadership and implementing policies and projects related to library services for the university and community.  This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment with faculty rank and responsibilities.  The Director reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:  The Director is responsible for organizing and managing the services of the L. Douglas Wilder Library and Learning Resource Center, establishing goals and objectives based on the university’s strategic plan, meeting the needs of the students, faculty, administration, and community, coordinating the training and development of faculty and staff, evaluating programmatic and performance standards, directing outreach services, seeking external funding for operational and developmental initiatives, maintaining current knowledge of current trends and developments in the library field, expertise to advisory boards, and supporting the mission of the university. Plan, implement and administer all library resources and services for students, faculty and staff wherever classes are taught, including online/distance learning courses. Stay current with library and information services and technology, including the integrated library system, distance learning resources, and the Internet.

Qualifications:  A master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA graduate program is required, but a doctorate in Library Science, Education or a related field is preferred.  Official copies of college transcripts must be on file by the appointment date for the successful candidate. Evidence of teaching, service, and a record of scholarly activity is expected, and candidate should have at least three years of leadership experience in a higher education setting.  Experience in administration or a supervisory capacity is desired.  Excellent communication, interpersonal, and computer skills are also required.  The ideal candidate should be able to document knowledge and experience with digital and electronic resources.

Salary:  Salary will be commensurate with educational background and experience.  A competitive benefits package may be offered.
