The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology

Faculty and Staff

Learning at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology is a community process. Teachers and students learn together, and learn from each other through the non-threatening exploration of personal beliefs and experiences. But, encouraging students to explore their own experiences isn't the only way in which these teachers help their students feel welcomed into a community of scholars and friends. Faculty members are also committed to rigorous academic standards and serious religious devotion. They want to make a difference in their own lives, in the lives of those to whom they minister, and in the lives of future generations of clergy.

Our faculty is committed—to their call, students, and school.

  • As ministers, our faculty members gain real world experience by serving as pastors for congregations of their own.
  • As teachers, they are dedicated and dynamic, exploring complicated questions right along side their students.
  • As faculty members, they have the best interests of the School of Theology in mind, working tirelessly to create the kind of challenging and welcoming atmosphere in which their students thrive.

"People's stories are very important and we have to learn how to encourage the sharing of those stories in order to become better ministers or sensitive leaders. We pay a lot of attention to the people themselves. That is uncharacteristic of many institutional settings."
—The late Dr. Miles Jones ‘63

The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology enjoys a long tradition of learned faculty. The strength and scope of the seminary's resident faculty is reinforced by adjunct professors.
